There were days when beauty and skincare used to address in the contest of women; however, now the trend has changed drastically, and even the men are concerned about their skin problems.
We all have grown up looking and admiring at celebrities and model’s flawless skin. Yet, because of many reasons like a hectic schedule, UV rays, insufficient sleep, bad eating habits, pollution, seasonal changes, health concerns, etc. it becomes challenging to achieve it.
Earlier, I used to buy lots of skincare products available in the market to fulfil my desire to get that flawless skin in my teens. Since I was someone with susceptible and acne-prone skin, using those toxic skincare products used to make my skin even worse. Now, to treat my harmed skin, unknowingly, I used to end up buying hundreds of new products. But, none worked.
Over time I realized the best way to heal your harmed skin is by the purity of natural ingredients and nuske that comes straight away from our Dadi & Nani’s kitchen. These home remedies have a solution to all our skin, hair, body, and what not problems.
Gone are the days when I spent a lot on those expensive products, now with all these nuske shared by my grandparents, I prepare my own DIYs.
Most of us follow the CTM (Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize) process in our regular skin care routine. Now the question arises why do we need a Face Serum? What does a face serum do? Why should we include a face serum in our skin care regimen?
What is a Face Serum?
Face serums are lightweight moisturizing skincare products with active ingredients that quickly seep deep inside the skin and target skin concerns like ageing, scars, pimple, un-even skin tone, skin lightening, and many more.
Is Serum a Moisturizer?
The serum has moisturizing properties, but they do not work as a moisturizer. They are thinner as compared to moisturizers. A moisturizer or a face cream has a thicker consistency, which makes it a barrier to keeping the skin’s essential oils locked.
Do we need Serum?
While choosing jewellery, a foundation, an electronic or a gadget like a phone laptop, etc. we always prefer something faster, productive, and lighter similarly, the serums are very light-weight and effective for your skin concerns. They are non-greasy in texture and get absorbed in the skin quickly. Serums are mostly available in oil forms, which helps them work as a great moisturizing agent for the skin.
*Now that you know why you need a serum and before I take you into recipe details, I would like to share a piece of cautionary advice about this DIY FACE SERUM FOR GLOWING SKIN. Since everyone’s skin type shows distinct behaviours even to natural ingredients, I would prescribe you to do a patch test over a small part of your face before applying it all over.
Presenting my secret homemade yet effective DIY face serum for glowing skin recipe with you.
Vitamin E capsule
Aloe Vera Gel
What makes this Serum Good for your face?
Orange Peek Extracts
Oranges are known as citric fruits, i.e. they are rich in Vitamin C content. Vitamin C has antioxidant properties which help in drying out your acne, promotes skin glow, reduces traces of dark spots and blemishes, diminishes signs of premature ageing and even removes excess oils from the skin. It overall works as a toner for the skin.
Vitamin E capsule
Vitamin E works best for overnight treatments. Since it is thicker in texture, it works as an excellent moisturizer for the skin. Vitamin E also helps in eliminating the signs of ageing and makes your skin youthful.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera is a saviour for all the concerns starting from the face to feet. It has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it a healing agent for all our skin concerns. Have sunburn? Apply Aloe Vera gel. Have acne and dark spots? Use Aloe Vera. Getting signs of ageing? Aloe Vera is all that you need.
Rosewater helps in sustaining our skin’s pH balance. Since it has anti-inflammatory properties, it helps soothe the skin, reduce irritation, redness, prevents infection and works as a refreshing agent. Rosewater is something that I religiously use in my CTM routine or even whenever I need a little refreshment I spray it all over and there you go!
Steps to prepare DIY FACE SERUM FOR GLOWING & YOUTHFUL SKIN
- Take two oranges or Kinnow and peel off or grate the skin. Do not grate the pith of the orange (which is the white part between the skin and the fruit).
- Add one cup of water to a container, add the grated skin to the water and boil for 10-15 minutes on high flame.
- Boil until the peel gets concentrated, and the nutrients from the skin get dissolved into the water.
- Strain the juice with the help of a filter in a fresh container making sure the residue is appropriately squeezed.
- Add 01 tablespoons of Aloe Vera gel to the orange peel juice. I prefer to choose Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel, you may use any brand, or even raw aloe Vera gel would work. Mix it well to eliminate lumps.
- Add 01 drop of Vitamin E capsule if you have oily skin and 02/ 03 drops of Vitamin E capsule if you have dry skin.
- Add 04-05 drops of rose water to the face serum mixture and mix it well.
- In case the consistency of the face serum is runny, you may add more aloe Vera gel or Vitamin E capsule.
- Pour this DIY face serum in a glass bottle container.
Your DIY face serum with the goodness of Vitamin-C for glowing skin is now ready to use.
- Clean the face with your favourite face cleanser.
- Allow your face to completely dry.
- Apply the DIY face serum with the help of a dropper on your face and neck directly. Do not insert your hands into the bottle as it can contaminate the rest of the product.
- Massage well in circular motions.
- Apply it daily for a few months to get the desired results.
Storage of this DIY Face Serum
If you have ever noticed Vitamin-C serums available in the market usually comes in a dark coloured glass bottle, the reason behind it is that vitamin-C serums often get oxidise within a couple of weeks. Thus, it is essential to store the DIY face serum in a dark coloured glass bottle container as sunlight can damage it. Therefore, I would recommend saving the DIY face serum at room temperature. Light coloured bottles or plastic bottles can destroy the essential oils and even harm nature.
Shelf life of this DIY Face Serum
The shelf life of DIY face serums is comparatively lesser as compared to the other available in the market. The face serums available in the market has some additional components mixed with Vitamin-C, which makes the shelf life last long, i.e. from one to three years. Whereas for DIY face serums, I would recommend utilising it within 8-10 days since it doesn’t have any preservatives or other components which can make the shelf life last longer.
When and how often should you use DIY face Serum?
DIY face serums or serums available in markets should be applied post face cleansing and before moisturizing the skin. Since face serums have active ingredients and work on your skin’s concern areas, it is crucial to cleanse the skin and make sure no impurities left on the face. In contrast, moisturizer helps in locking the serum since it acts as a thick barrier between your skin and outer the world.
I prefer to use the DIY face serum during the night time post-cleansing my face with my favourite facewash as our skin is usually on repair mode during the night time. You can use it twice a day as well but make sure you do not forget to cleanse the face accurately.
