No matter how proper your routine is, but an inappropriate shampoo for your hair and scalp can make your effort worthless. Our hair gets dirty due to many factors such as dirt or dust, which makes the hair looks oily. If you are a gym freak sweat is the main accuse of making your hair dirty, smelly and even irritates your scalp as it releases salt. Using many styling products on your hair also makes the hair messy and greasy.

Fine/ Thin Hair
Fine hair tends to be more fragile, which ultimately lead to more hair fall. Since the volume of hair is skinny, it starts to get dirty & greasy very early. The thinner the hair, more damaged it will look especially towards the end. With fine hair since the hair doesn’t have much volume, it is challenging to frame any new hairstyle or hair look. To eliminate all of these you would need the best shampoo for your hair which can help in giving a volume to the hair. One of the shampoos amongst the lot of fine/thin hair is;
As the name indicates, this fantastic product has some wonderful ingredients which helped me in volumising my hair nutrients that you tend to loose with the signs of ageing/stress. This product intensely nourished my hair and gave my hair a volumised and shiny look. It was a very mild fragrance. It is a 2 in 1 product which cleans and conditions the hair at the same time.
Suitable for women and men both.
Fizzy Hair/ Curly Hair
Curly hair tends to be naturally dry. Due to hair’s texture and shape, the moisture doesn’t reach to the scalp, and it turns out to be fizzier. Curly hair even gets more tangled as compared to straight hair. Thus, to manage these spiral creations, one should pick the shampoo wisely. As recommended by the hair specialists, one should go for a sulphate free shampoo to maintain those gorgeous curls.
There are days when my hair acts weird and don’t want to cooperate at all. Dove is another preferred option in my go-to shampoo range during those ugly days. This little wonder contains Nutri-oil properties that profoundly nourishes my dry hair and helps in smoothing my fizzed and unmanageable hair to a great extent. It has a very mild fragrance.
Suitable for women and men both.
Chemically Treated Hair
Do you also love to bleach your hair?
Colouring/bleaching/straightening gives you and your hair a new look entirely. However, chemicals used while performing the tasks injure your hair a lot. Chemically treated hair demands extra attention to take care of them properly. Hence it is always prescribed to use specialised and best shampoo and conditioners for chemically treated hair to maintain them.
TRESemme is one of my favourite brands and turns out to be the best shampoo for your hair. Since I usually colour my hair frequently, this professional range pocket-friendly shampoo is a companion for my colour treated hair. It has a low content of sulphate. The shampoo contains traces of keratine and Moroccan oil which makes my hair and it’s colour shiny. It not only cleans but also nourishes my scalp.
Suitable for women and men both.
A lot of us have hair concerns like hair fall, dandruff, split ends and a lot more. Hair concerns occur due to various factors like poor diet, week metabolism, hormonal changes, stress, excess use of hair styling products, heat and combing. Once the problem arises, getting rid of it isn’t easy. Thus, having a proper diet along with some healthy products specialised on the concerns is very important. One of the most trending product these days is;
This brand has been trending a lot nowadays. The product has onion extracts in it. Onion has proven to prevent hair loss as it has surplus sulphur which encourages strong and thick hair. Onion oil also promotes hair growth. This shampoo is suitable for chemically treated hair and also reduces dandruff. The initial application of this shampoo will make your hair smooth and frizz-free. The best thing about this product is it is chemical and toxin-free.
Try Multiple brands
Most of us usually prefer to buy shampoo and conditioner of the same family to maintain symmetry. However, mixing and matching different brand can also be helpful sometimes. For instance, a particular brand of shampoo can fix one of your problems, whereas using a different brand of conditioner can help in fixing the other problem.
I am the type of person who doesn’t like to stick to one product and keeps on changing it. I usually like to experiment with my hair behaviours and new products. My current favourite shampoo is the one that we all must have used in our childhood, and our mother and grandmother have been using since years. On the other hand, taking about the conditioner, it is specially framed for my colour treated hair. The shampoo and conditioner is none other than:
Clinic plus shampoo helps in building the hair strength and makes them soft. With regular use of this product, one can see noticeable longer hair.
As stated earlier, my colour treated hair needs a little extra care. Thus, this conditioner is specialised to soften and manage my harmed hair.
Do not stick to one product.
Not analysing your hair on a timely basis and sticking on to a single product is the worst that you can do to your hair. Keeping a regular check on your hair behaviour is very important to avoid hair problems. I recommend that in case a particular product is not showing the desired results, one should switch on to a different brand.
Now another major question arises here is should we wash our hair regularly?
Excessive hair wash can lead to hair loss!
You should wash your hair only twice or thrice a week depending on your hair concerns or maybe can avoid until your hair permits. Almost all shampoos have chemicals washing your hair frequently can affect your scalp and can make it itchy, dry and even can weaken your hair which will lead to hair fall. In case if your scalp gets oily, you may increase the washes as per your requirement.
Below are the alternates that you may use if you want to have those fresh hair daily:
Too lazy to wash your hair? Getting late for a party want those silky, bouncy fresh hair? Are you tired of your greasy scalp after your gym workout? Here you go!
Dry shampoos are trending these days and are a lifesaver for all the lazy humans. As the name claims you don’t have to take the hassle of wetting your hair, instead this can be applied on dry hair. Dry shampoo does not clean the dirt from your scalp but absorbs the excess oil instantly and makes your look bouncy and fluffy again.
Out of the fantastic lot, this is the most suitable product from the Dove range. It helps in absorbing excess oil and provide volume to your flat and greasy hair.
Another trending technique these days is co-washing, i.e. ‘Conditioner only washing’. Sometimes skipping shampoos and washing your hair with conditioner only will make your hair hydrated and fresh without even using harsh chemicals present in shampoos. Co-washing can be an excellent technique for alternates washing and can be quick.
This shampoo works best during those humid days when you need to wash your hair every alternate day. Pantene pro-v smooth conditioner has moisturising properties that help in controlling frizzy hair.
It is okay to wash your hair with only water as it eliminates the excess usage of harsh chemicals and cleans the dirt and excess oiliness from the hair.
PRO TIP: Study your hair concerns/symptoms and correlate to those mentioned on the labels of the products, that’s how you can choose the best shampoo for your hair.
As a bonus tip, I shall be sharing my techniques on correct ways of washing hair;
- Water Temperature: You should always wash your hair with the perfect temperature. I have also read it somewhere to remove dirt one should open hair cuticles with hot water as it works best and to close the hair cuticles at the end of the washing cold water works best.
- Rinse your hair with filtered (incase you have salty/chlorine tap water) or normal Luke warm water.
- Do not apply your shampoo solo instead mix it with water. It will benefit in easy application plus lesser product would be required.
- Massage gently on roots and scalp to produce lather. Do not apply till the ends this they are the oldest and most delicate.
- Rise the shampoo with water and wash with gentle hands and not nails.
- Do not rub your hair with the towel, instead pat dry or use a t-shirt.
- Please do not use a hairdryer, let them dry naturally.
